Field Director Archaeologist

Compensation: $40-48/hour, based on experience and qualifications
Aquilla Archaeology Ltd. is seeking a qualified Field Director Archaeologist to join our team in Nanaimo, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about archaeology and eager to live and work across the stunning landscapes of the south coast of British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead archaeological assessments under permit authority
- Conduct fieldwork including surveys, monitoring, and data recovery excavations
- Supervise and mentor junior staff
- Coordinate logistics and fieldwork planning
- Collaborate with GIS specialists, senior archaeologists, and project managers
- Analyze cultural materials in accordance with regulatory standards
- Prepare and review site inventory forms, reports (AOA, PFR, AIA), and professional communications
- Ensure compliance with client, First Nation, and regulatory expectations
Qualifications
- Approved Field Director (Northwest Coast) by the BC Archaeology Branch
- Minimum 5 years of archaeological experience in BC or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in archaeology or anthropology
- Strong knowledge of the Heritage Conservation Act and BC archaeology
- Skilled in heritage resource management and field leadership
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence
- Canadian citizen or valid work permit
- Willingness to travel and work in diverse terrain and weather conditions
- Adherence to Aquilla’s Safe Work Procedures
